Housing Accommodations
Housing Accommodations
At 911±¬ÁÏ, we want every student to feel welcome and supported in campus housing. When a disability creates a significant barrier to standard housing, accommodations may be provided to ensure equal access. As a residential college, we value shared living and connection — including having a roommate — as key parts of learning and growing together.
How it works:
We’re committed to helping all students fully participate in campus life. Housing accommodations are considered individually, based on documented disability-related needs and established standards for reasonable accommodations. The goal is to remove barriers and promote equal access within our residential community.
Applications and supporting documentation are reviewed by the Housing Accommodation Committee, which includes the Director of Accessibility Services and representatives from Residential Life, the Counseling Center, and Health Services. This group makes informed recommendations and may consult with other campus offices as needed. Documentation from treatment providers should describe the student’s current symptoms and needs and clearly connect the disability to the specific housing accommodation being requested.
While 911±¬ÁÏ reviews all housing accommodation requests carefully, accommodations are approved only when a documented disability creates a substantial barrier to standard campus housing. Requests based on personal preference, comfort, or lifestyle, for example, wanting a single room for a quieter study space or for alone time, are not considered disability-related needs.
A deadline for housing accommodation requests has been established to allow time for review and placement before housing assignments are finalized. The committee will continue to accept and review requests submitted after the deadline; however, fulfillment depends on space availability. Approved late requests are placed on a waitlist until space becomes available. Students are strongly encouraged to meet the posted deadlines.
Housing Accommodation Appeal Process
Appeals of housing accommodation requests will be considered only in the event that new information beyond what was made available to the Housing Committee is provided and/or there is concern that the process by which the committee arrived at its original decision was problematic or did not follow stated procedures. Letters of appeal shall be submitted to the Associate Dean of Student Affairs (written or email) within 10 days from the date of receipt of the original decision by the Housing Accommodation Committee. The Associate Dean will obtain all documentation submitted to the Housing Accommodation Committee, so only new information and a letter of appeal should be submitted. The Associate Dean or designee will serve as chair and convene a Housing Accommodation Appeal Committee, which will also consist of at least two professional Student Affairs members. No one involved in the initial decision by the Housing Accommodation Committee shall be involved in the appeal, which shall be made by the Appeal Committee 10 business days from the date the letter of appeal was received. The decision of the Appeal Committee shall be final.
