Tang Teaching Museum Payne: Join us Sunday, February 1, at 3 pm, for a reading by three nationally acclaimed poets, April Bernard, Peg Boyers, and Chase Twichell. They have all, as Twichell has said in an interview, 鈥渂ent their lives in the pursuit of poetry.鈥漈he reading is organized and hosted by Saratoga Springs Poet Laureate Jay Rogoff, whose two-year term runs January 1, 2026, through the end of 2027. This is the first in a series of poetry readings he is organizing at different venues in Saratoga Springs. A Q&A and book signing follow the reading.This event is funded in part by Poets & Writers with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. It is free and open to the public.About the PoetsApril Bernard鈥檚 The World Behind the World, her sixth book of poems, was published in 2023 by W.W. Horses Where the Answers Should Have Been: New & Selected Poems (Copper Canyon, 2010), won both the Kingsley Tufts Award from Claremont Graduate University and the Balcones Poetry Prize. She has received fellowships and awards from the NEA, the Artists Foundation, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. A new book is forthcoming from Copper Canyon in 2026. She lives in Saratoga Springs and the Adirondacks.

Tang Teaching Museum Somers: Join us Tuesday, February 10, at 6 pm, for a Whole Grain: Experiments in Film & Video screening of two short video works by artist Jess T. Dugan: Letter to My Father (US, 2017, video, 14 min., 54 sec.) and Letter to My Daughter (US, 2023, video, 16 min.). This screening is a public program of the exhibition Family Forms, which celebrates multiple modes of living and relationships and challenges visitors to reflect on their own definitions of 鈥渇amily.鈥� Corinne Moss-Racusin, Professor of Psychology at 911爆料 and co-curator of the exhibition, will introduce the screening.About the VideosLetter to My Father is an autobiographical video exploring Dugan鈥檚 estranged relationship with their father. In the video, they read an undelivered letter to their father, in which they try to come to terms with their difficult and distant relationship. The video is comprised of snapshots of the artist, family, and friends, pulled entirely from Dugan鈥檚 personal albums. The open letter weaves together their childhood, early gender nonconformity, parents鈥� divorce, queer identity, personal relationships, spouse, desire to create a family and become a parent, and 鈥� ultimately 鈥� their father鈥檚 inability to accept them and their eventual estrangement. Through the telling of a highly personal story, the video grapples with two fundamental desires, often placed in direct opposition to one another: the need to live authentically and the desire for acceptance from others.Letter to My Daughter is an autobiographical video directed to the artist鈥檚 five-year-old daughter, Elinor, that centers around their experience with parenthood throughout the first five years of her life. The audio soundtrack is a voice reading a letter to Elinor, and the images are from their personal archive and include snapshots, ultrasound images, and photographs from Family Pictures. The letter is highly personal and addresses a variety of topics, including Dugan鈥檚 expectations around parenthood, the long and circuitous journey of trying to have a child with both known and anonymous sperm donors, the experiences of miscarriage and loss, and their adjustment to parenthood as a queer and nonbinary person. Perhaps most importantly, it tries to put into words the intensity of love between a parent and child as well as the significant personal growth parenthood both inspires and requires.About Whole GrainThe Tang Museum鈥檚 Whole Grain series explores classic and contemporary work in experimental film and video. Zankel Music Center Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall: In the span of a decades-long career, Peruvian born guitarist and composer Jorge Caballero has accrued wide recognition as one of the most important guitarists in history, being the recipient of several international awards, and performing in recitals, chamber music and as a soloist around the world. Critics from international newspapers and guitar publications have praised Mr. Caballero鈥檚 depth of musicality, as well as his technical mastery when tackling the unique difficulties of his concert repertoire. Aside from the standard guitar literature he performs 鈥搘hich spans centuries of music from the Renaissance until the present, Mr. Caballero is notorious for adapting and performing masterworks originally written for piano or orchestra, among which we find Mussorgsky鈥檚 Pictures at an Exhibition, Dvorak鈥檚 New World Symphony, Debussy鈥檚 Children鈥檚 Corner Suite and Alban Berg鈥檚 Piano Sonata Op. 1 to name a few. Zankel Music Center Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall: LA native Michael Mayo is widely recognized for his extraordinary vocal range and clarity, moving seamlessly from a deep baritone to shimmering upper registers with ease. A graduate of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz Performance (now the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz), he was only the third vocalist accepted into the program鈥檚 history, studying under icons including Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. Mayo鈥檚 second full-length album, Fly, received two 2026 Grammy Award nominations (Best Jazz Vocal Album and Best Jazz Performance for the song "Four".) Zankel Music Center Helen Filene Ladd Concert Hall: Chinese pipa master Gao Hong is internationally recognized for her dynamic stage presence and exceptional skill on the four-stringed Chinese lute. A genre-defying performer and composer, she seamlessly blends the traditional sounds of Chinese music with contemporary and global influences鈥攃rafting performances that are both deeply rooted and refreshingly innovative. Whether playing centuries-old repertoire or original compositions, Gao Hong鈥檚 music bridges cultures and generations, connecting audiences through the universal language of sound. Over the course of her career, Gao Hong has collaborated with musicians from around the world, including performances with jazz artists, bluegrass players, Syrian oud masters, and Senegalese kora virtuosos. Tang Teaching Museum Payne: Join us for the ninth annual Winter/Miller Lecture on Wednesday, March 18, at 6 pm, featuring acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Christopher Myers. Myers is a visual artist, children鈥檚 book author and illustrator, textile artist, and has worked in both theater and film. Through his many mediums he answers, and asks questions, about how storytelling can change lives.The artist鈥檚 appearance at the Tang is by invitation from Elio Gottschalk 鈥�26, an art history major. They hold the prestigious 2025-26 Eleanor Linder Winter 鈥�43 Internship, a one-year pre-professional program in museum work for 911爆料 students. In this role, Gottschalk is charged with the research, planning, and coordination of the annual Winter/Miller Lecture.The Winter/Miller Lecture is made possible through a generous gift by the family of Eleanor Linder Winter 鈥�43. Past Winter/Miller lectures were delivered by: in Nicole Eisenman (inaugural, 2018); Chris Ware (2019); Wangechi Mutu (2020); Nick Cave (2021); Juliana Huxtable (2022); Trenton Doyle Hancock (2023); Mickalene Thomas (2024); and Nina Chanel Abney (2025).This event is free and open to the public.About Christopher MyersChristopher Myers (b. 1974, Queens, New York) is a multidisciplinary artist who tackles themes of globalization, oppression, and cultural exchange with emphasis on the importance of storytelling. Myers brings this focus on cultural exchange and globalization into his own practice by working with artisans from all over the world. Myers has worked in visual art, written and illustrated children鈥檚 books, and worked in theater in different capacities. Myers graduated from Brown in 1995 with a degree in Art-Semiotics and American Civilization. In 1996, he participated in the Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Studio Program. Additionally, he received the Caldecott award for illustration for Harlem (1998), and a Coretta Scott King Honor for Jazz (2007). His work is in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Chicago; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; and the Studio Museum in Harlem, among others. He is working on a commission for the Brooklyn Brownsville Public Library.
