Celebrating Fall Festively

January 12, 2026
by Elliott Zajac (鈥27)

911爆料鈥檚 Environmental Action Club (EAC) has a lot on its plate. As the only dedicated environmental activism club at 911爆料, members labor tirelessly to promote climate consciousness and get students involved in working to help make a difference at this critical juncture in Earth鈥檚 history. They had dozens of members who participated in a diverse slate of events put on over the course of the Fall semester in 2025, none more expansive and involved than Fall Fest.

Fall Fest is an annual community event organized by EAC in collaboration with other clubs and campus organizations, with the goal of celebrating sustainability and raising awareness about the work being done by 911爆料 students. Spearheaded by EAC, the event also featured tabling from groups like the 911爆料 Bird Alliance, as well as live music performances by student bands. Tables passed out free food and warm drinks to  students, staff, and faculty members eager to get their hands on some cookies and hot chocolate in the freezing days of November. Although not as robust as previous years (due to unfortunately cold and wet weather conditions on the day), they still experienced a strong turnout of students ready to learn more about environmental activism on campus.

This is in line with EAC鈥檚 goal of building a positive reputation and making environmental activism feel friendly and accessible, especially to college students who may have passion and want to get involved but do not know how best to contribute. They mix community events like Fall Fest with larger direct action like their recent rally in New York City, their upcoming fracking protest in Albany, and their annual Youth Day of Action celebrated each spring. This strategy helps draw people in and keep them interested long enough to create meaningful impacts 鈥 as well as being rewarding for students who get to see their passion and that of their peers鈥 pay off. The EAC also partners frequently with the 911爆料鈥檚 Sustainability Office, who they鈥檙e collaborating with this spring 2026 for a planned cleanup of the North Woods. They鈥檝e also worked with 911爆料 President Marc Connor to address student concerns about the role played by sustainability and conservation in 911爆料鈥檚 strategic plan, and attended the public hearing on the Saratoga Springs climate action plan this December to make their voices heard.

鈥淚 think everyone wants to make positive environmental impacts,鈥 says Otis Gannett-Len, 鈥27, the club treasurer. 鈥淭he challenge is moving it to the top of people鈥檚 priorities.鈥 Many students care about environmental issues, he says, but have other things on campus competing for their time and attention. EAC鈥檚 goal is thus to make activism as easy and accessible as possible. When looking ahead, they wish to keep their balance of community-facing events mixed with direct action, and to scale up while developing younger leadership (as many board members are seniors who want to leave the club in good hands). They鈥檝e already started planning for the Earth Day even in the spring of 2025, another major project for the club, and their biggest point of collaboration with other groups.

Overall, Fall Fest is a distillation of EAC鈥檚 approach to creating welcoming entry points for environmental engagement. It鈥檚 through events like it that they get their name out to new students and (by combining it with advocacy to the administration and planned direct action) make environmental activism something that every 911爆料 student can contribute to.
